Description: Swing valves are similar to butterfly valves except that they are similar to butterfly valves except that they are hinged on one edge rather than along a diameter. They may be actuated by torsion springs, by levers, etc.

Usage: Swing valves are primarily used as check valves to block flow in one direction.

Advantages: Swing valves have many of the same advantages as butterfly valves including low pressure drop, light weight, nad relatively low cost.

Disadvantages: Swing valves may have high leakage, are subject to contamination buildup and introduce turbulance at low flow rates. The sealing surfaces may erode in high velocity flow.
